Hurricane Matthew hit the coast at Vero Beach, classified as a category 3 hurricane. As it moved along the East coast it brought wind speeds reported as high as 107 mph at Cape Canaveral, approximately 8 inches of rain reported in the Orlando area and a storm surge of 6.4 feet hitting Fernandina Beach near Jacksonville.
Here in the Brevard County area we had damage to homes and businesses including, fences, roofs, flooding, and damaged and uprooted trees. The combination of high winds and rainfall can often cause trees to uproot as they struggle to keep their hold in the saturated soil. This is a photo of one of the trees Sunstate was called in to remove.
